A Federal High Court in Abuja has affirmed the removal of Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, ruling that his tenure has elapsed.

The court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee as the lawful leadership of the party.

Justice Lifu, who delivered the ruling, upheld the Supreme Court’s earlier judgment that Abure’s tenure had expired.

Human rights lawyer Inibehe Effiong, who was present in court, disclosed that the judge directed INEC to immediately recognize Senator Nenadi Usman as the leader of the Labour Party.

The development marks a significant turn in the Labour Party’s leadership crisis, with the Usman-led committee now poised to take the reins. The Supreme Court had previously ruled that Abure’s tenure had elapsed, and the recent court decision reinforces this verdict.
