A Lagos-based innovator, Stitches Africa, has officially launched an AI-powered e-commerce platform aimed at fashion lovers worldwide, particularly the African diaspora. Through this platform, users can browse and purchase bespoke and ready-to-wear garments from verified African designers and tailors, while leveraging advanced digital measurement technology to ensure perfect fit, no matter where they are in the world.

The company revealed that it has secured a substantial $50 million financing package. The funding, led by JF Advisory Group with custodial services from Cedrus Trustees Limited, is earmarked for global market expansion, designer and merchant production financing, and logistics infrastructure to support cross-border distribution.

At the launch event in Lagos, co-founder Franklyn Peters explained that the platform seeks to “bridge the fashion gap” by addressing obstacles such as limited international access to African-made fashion, low market visibility for local tailors, and inconsistent measurements for bespoke garments. The AI-driven body measurement technology enables customers anywhere in the world to generate accurate digital measurements for a tailored fit.

In addition to serving customers, the platform offers African designers and tailors new revenue streams: they can earn in foreign currencies and tap into strategic funding support via Stitches Africa’s ecosystem. According to head of marketing, Joy Oikeh, the financing will bolster logistics, scale the platform across major international markets, and expand the product portfolio of affiliated designers and tailors.

By targeting the global African diaspora, estimated at 4.6 million in the United States alone and additional millions across Europe, South America and Australia, Stitches Africa is tapping into a significant demand for authentic continental fashion and craftsmanship. As Peters noted, this launch comes at a timely moment when global interest in African-made fashion is rising.
This $50 million investment signals confidence in Africa’s fashion tech sector and could catalyse regional job creation and export earnings. By enabling designers to earn in foreign currencies and facilitating global trade in African apparel, the platform may contribute to national income and strengthen Nigeria’s position in the global creative economy.

In summary, Stitches Africa’s new platform combines cutting-edge AI with the rich heritage of African fashion design. It opens doors for creators on the continent and provides bespoke-fit fashion lovers around the world with accessibility and authenticity. With significant funding in place, the company is poised to scale internationally and challenge conventional fashion-commerce models.
