The Delta State Internal Revenue Service (DSIRS) has warned taxpayers and members of the public against fake tax demand notices and fraudulent individuals posing as officials or authorised agents of the Service.

The warning was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, by the Executive Chairman of DSIRS, Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata.

Ighrakpata said DSIRS had not authorised any individual or unauthorised agent to issue tax demand notices or collect taxes on behalf of the Service outside established and approved channels.

“The DSIRS wishes to categorically state that it has not authorised any individual or unauthorised agent to issue tax demand notices or collect taxes on its behalf outside established and approved channels,” he said.

He described the activities of the fraudsters as a serious criminal offence capable of undermining public confidence in Delta State’s tax administration system.

The chairman urged taxpayers to verify the authenticity of any tax assessment, demand notice, payment request or other correspondence purportedly issued by DSIRS before making payment.

He also advised taxpayers, businesses and other members of the public to make payments only through officially approved government channels and to report suspicious notices or individuals claiming to represent the Service.

According to Ighrakpata, DSIRS is collaborating with law enforcement agencies to identify, apprehend and prosecute persons involved in issuing fake demand notices, impersonating tax officials and engaging in fraudulent tax collection.

He warned that such activities could cause revenue leakages for the government, financial losses for taxpayers and disruption to the state’s revenue administration.

The DSIRS chairman assured legitimate taxpayers that the Service remained committed to protecting the integrity of the state’s revenue collection system and promoting transparency and accountability in tax administration.

Taxpayers can verify assessments and payment-related information through the official DSIRS portal before making payments.
