Airtel Africa Plc has announced an interim dividend of USD 0.03 per share, translating to N43.68 per share based on the company’s exchange rate of N1,456.00/USD, following a strong performance in the second quarter of 2025. The declaration reflects the telecom giant’s continued profitability and resilience across its African markets.

According to a corporate disclosure filed with the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) on Monday, November 3, 2025, the dividend will be paid on December 12, 2025, to shareholders whose names appear in the company’s register by November 7, 2025. Airtel Africa noted that payments will be made in US dollars, British pounds sterling, or Nigerian naira, depending on shareholders’ preferences.

The interim dividend represents a yield of about 1.9%, based on the closing share price of N2,310.50 on October 28, 2025. “This payout underscores our confidence in the company’s financial strength and its ability to sustain growth across markets,” the telecom operator said.

Robust Financial Performance

Airtel Africa reported a significant improvement in its financial metrics for the first half of 2025. Revenue grew 25.8% year-on-year to USD 2.98 billion, while EBITDA rose 33.2% to USD 1.45 billion, expanding the EBITDA margin from 45.8% to 48.5%. The company’s operating profit climbed 35.9% to USD 959 million, and profit before tax surged by an impressive 269% to USD 656 million.

After accounting for taxes, profit after tax stood at USD 376 million, representing a 375% increase compared to the same period last year. Earnings per share also improved significantly, rising to 8.3 cents from 0.8 cents in the previous period. In addition, operating cash flow expanded by 46.5% to USD 1.13 billion, while net debt reduced to USD 5.5 billion, improving the company’s leverage ratio from 2.3× to 2.1×.

Despite increased network investments, capital expenditure (capex) remained stable at USD 318 million, reflecting disciplined cost management amid expansion efforts.

Revenue Drivers and Market Growth

Airtel Africa’s growth was broad-based, with strong contributions from all major service segments. Voice revenue grew 17.2%, data revenue jumped 40.7%, mobile money advanced 36.5%, and other services increased 12.8% year-on-year.

Data services have become a major growth pillar, now accounting for 39.1% of total revenue, supported by an 18.4% rise in active data subscribers, higher average data usage, and wider smartphone adoption across markets.

In Nigeria, Airtel’s largest market, revenue soared 56.3% year-on-year, driven by a 71.7% surge in data revenue and a 38.7% increase in voice revenue. The company attributed this growth to a sharp rise in data consumption—up 24.9% to 10.1 GB per user monthly—and the impact of recent tariff adjustments.

Across East Africa, revenue rose 19.1%, powered by stronger performances in both voice (+19.2%) and data (+22.7%) segments. In Francophone Africa, revenue climbed 17.7%, with data revenue up nearly 40%, reflecting growing digital adoption.

Airtel Africa’s mobile money business also recorded exceptional momentum. Customer numbers grew 20% year-on-year to 49.8 million, while the total value of transactions reached USD 48.3 billion, marking a 42.9% increase from the prior year. The company continues to leverage its extensive mobile network and partnerships to expand financial inclusion across the continent.

Analyst Insight and Future Outlook

Market analysts have commended Airtel Africa’s performance, describing it as a testament to its solid operational execution. Analysts at Cordros Capital noted that “the company’s ability to expand its subscriber base and boost data consumption will continue to sustain growth momentum,” adding that the mobile money segment is emerging as a key profit driver for future quarters.

They also highlighted that lower financing costs and efficient debt management are strengthening Airtel Africa’s balance sheet, positioning it favorably within the African telecom sector.
