The Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, NCDMB, in partnership with Techico Resource Solutions Limited, has provided educational materials and teaching tools to Ugbuwangue Secondary School in Warri, Delta State.
The intervention was delivered under the Back to the Creeks initiative, which seeks to improve education and learning conditions in oil producing communities. The materials were formally handed over to the school on September 22, 2026. The support included tablet computers, staff desks and chairs, white boards and markers, school bags, books and pens. The initiative also included certification scholarships as part of efforts to strengthen teaching and learning in the school.
The programme brought together representatives of NCDMB and Techico, school management, teachers, students and members of the Ugbuwangue community. Speaking at the handover ceremony, Omolola Bolushire, Chief Executive Officer of Techico Resource Solutions Limited, said the intervention was designed to respond to practical needs within the community. She thanked NCDMB for supporting the Back to the Creeks initiative and its focus on improving opportunities for young people.
“It is easy to talk about development. It is something else entirely to come into a community, listen, identify real needs and commit resources to making a difference,” Bolushire said.
She also called on the school and community to take responsibility for the resources provided and ensure they remain available for students in the future.
“These are not simply gifts to a community. They are an investment in a community. Please protect the facilities, protect the school and protect what has been provided,” she said.
Representing NCDMB Executive Secretary Felix Omatsola Ogbe, Khadija Jekhine, Assistant Manager, Institutional Relations and Entrepreneurship Development, said the Board considers education and human capital development important to long term national growth. She said providing teachers and students with appropriate resources would help improve classroom delivery and create a better learning environment.
“Education is an investment in the future. By supporting schools and young people, we are helping to create opportunities that can have a lasting impact on communities,” Jekine said.
Jekhine added that well equipped teachers would be better positioned to support students and prepare them for the future. The Principal of Ugbuwangue Secondary School, Morrison Merit Jemiyotan, also expressed appreciation for the intervention.
“We are grateful for this support. These materials will make a meaningful difference to our school, and we are committed to ensuring that they are properly used and maintained for the benefit of our students,” the Principal said.
The school’s Head Girl, Edogun Itse Blessing Afiangbe, said the students welcomed the intervention and appreciated NCDMB for improving their learning environment.
“We are very grateful to NCDMB for what they have just done,” she said, adding, “NCDMB has brightened the future of our students.”
The Back to the Creeks initiative is focused on grassroots development in oil producing rural communities through education, digital learning, school facility upgrades and teacher support. Ugbuwangue Secondary School is among schools in oil producing states that have benefited from the programme as NCDMB continues to use the initiative to improve access to learning resources and strengthen human capital development.
