The Aig Imoukhuede Foundation has announced the opening of applications for the sixth cohort of its flagship AIG Public Leaders Programme, a leadership development initiative delivered in collaboration with the University of Oxford. The programme continues to position itself as a structured intervention aimed at strengthening governance capacity across Africa’s public sector.
According to the foundation, the initiative is designed to prepare high potential public servants with the practical skills, policy understanding, and leadership networks required to drive institutional reform and improve public service delivery across the continent.
The programme targets senior government officials from English speaking African countries who are actively working within public institutions and are committed to long term reform outcomes. Applications are currently open and will close on April 12, 2026, while the new cohort is scheduled to begin in October 2026.
Speaking on the programme’s objective, Executive Vice Chair of the foundation, Ofovwe Aig Imoukhuede, emphasised the growing complexity of governance challenges across Africa. She stated, “Across Africa, the complexity of public sector challenges demands more than good intentions. It requires reformers who understand systems, can navigate institutional realities, and are equipped to implement sustainable change. The AIG PLP is designed to meet this need.”
The AIG Public Leaders Programme is structured as an intensive executive education experience delivered through Oxford University’s Blavatnik School of Government. Participants undergo academic training combined with practical exercises, collaborative learning, and reform focused project development aimed at translating theory into measurable institutional improvements.
Since its launch in 2021, the programme has expanded its influence across African public institutions. Alumni have implemented reform initiatives within ministries, departments, and agencies, contributing to administrative efficiency and improved policy execution. Impact assessments indicate that many graduates have progressed into higher leadership responsibilities following completion of the training.
The initiative reflects a broader strategy by the foundation to strengthen public sector effectiveness through capacity building rather than short term interventions. By equipping leaders with policy frameworks, negotiation skills, and governance tools, the programme aims to support institutional resilience and long term development outcomes.
Eligibility requirements include a minimum of seven years of professional experience in the public sector, senior grade level responsibility, and demonstrated leadership potential. Selected participants receive fully funded access to the programme, ensuring that financial constraints do not limit participation from qualified candidates across the region.
The partnership between the Aig Imoukhuede Foundation and the University of Oxford underscores increasing collaboration between African institutions and global academic centres to address governance challenges through structured leadership training.
