Stanbic IBTC Warns of Possible Delay in H1 2026 Financial Results

Stanbic IBTC Holdings Plc has informed investors and the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) that it may not submit its audited financial statements for the first half of 2026 by the official deadline.

The financial services group disclosed the possible delay in a regulatory notice released through the NGX on Tuesday.

Stanbic IBTC said it is still completing the audit of its financial results for the six months ended June 30, 2026. After the audit is concluded, the company will need to obtain the necessary regulatory approval from the Central Bank of Nigeria before publishing the results.

The regulatory deadline for submitting the company’s H1 2026 audited financial statements is August 28, 2026.

However, Stanbic IBTC said the approval process could mean that the results are submitted after the deadline.

The company stressed that the delay does not mean the financial statements will be withheld indefinitely. Instead, it said the process is being completed and that it is working to submit the results as quickly as possible once all regulatory requirements have been met.

Stanbic IBTC Group Company Secretary, Chidi Okezie, said the company was making every effort to complete the process and obtain the required approvals.

According to the company, the financial statements could still be filed before August 28 or shortly after the regulatory deadline, depending on how quickly the remaining procedures are completed.

The announcement is important for investors because listed companies are expected to provide regular financial information to the market. Financial statements allow shareholders, analysts and potential investors to assess a company’s performance, profitability and financial position.

For a major financial holding company such as Stanbic IBTC, the release of its half-year results is also closely watched because the figures provide an indication of how the group is performing amid changing interest rates, inflation, foreign exchange conditions and broader economic developments.

Under the post-listing requirements of the Nigerian Exchange, quoted companies are generally expected to submit their interim financial reports within specified periods after the end of a reporting period.

However, banks and financial holding companies can face additional regulatory procedures because their financial statements may require review and clearance by the Central Bank of Nigeria before they are released publicly.

This additional approval process can sometimes affect the timing of financial disclosures.

Stanbic IBTC’s notification therefore gives the market advance notice that its results may not arrive within the normal regulatory timeframe.

The company assured shareholders and other stakeholders that it understands the importance of timely financial reporting and is working to complete the process without unnecessary delays.

The possible delay comes at a time when Nigeria’s banking sector is undergoing significant changes, including recapitalisation, tighter regulatory requirements and efforts by financial institutions to strengthen their balance sheets.

Investors will consequently be watching Stanbic IBTC’s eventual H1 results for information on revenue, profit, asset quality, lending activity and the group’s overall financial position.

For now, the company has urged stakeholders to await the official financial statements once the audit and regulatory approval processes have been completed.

The notification also highlights the balance financial institutions must maintain between meeting market reporting deadlines and completing the detailed regulatory checks required before publishing audited financial information.

Stanbic IBTC said it remains committed to completing the process and filing the results as soon as all necessary approvals are secured.
