The Governor of Oyo State, Seyi Makinde, has announced a shake-up in his cabinet, making several changes to key positions in the state government.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Professor Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo was relieved of her duties as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) with immediate effect. She has been replaced by Professor Musibau Adetunji Babatunde, an economist and academic who previously served as Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.
Professor Babatunde’s appointment is effective immediately and he will take on responsibilities for coordinating the activities of the state’s administration and advising the governor on policy matters.
In addition to the change in the top civil servant post, Governor Makinde reassigned other officials in his government. Barrister Temilolu Seun Ashamu, who had been serving as Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, has been moved to head the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.
The governor also announced that his Senior Special Assistant on Public Works, Ademola Aderinto, will now be nominated as a commissioner. Aderinto is expected to be presented to the Oyo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation before assuming his new role.
Other appointments include Honourable Abiodun Adedoja as Special Adviser on Energy Security and Kolawole Elijah Akanmu as Senior Special Assistant on Budget and Economic Planning. These changes are intended to strengthen governance and support ongoing development efforts across the state.
The governor’s statement did not specify reasons for the reshuffle beyond the desire to enhance the effectiveness of his administration, but such moves typically reflect efforts to refresh leadership and respond to changing priorities.
All the appointments and reassignments take effect immediately and reflect Governor Makinde’s continued management of his executive team as he leads Oyo State into the new year.
