Nigeria Infrastructure Debt Fund Posts ₦23.6bn Profit as Loan Portfolio Expands

The Nigeria Infrastructure Debt Fund (NIDF) has announced a strong financial performance for the full year ended 2025, reporting a pre-tax profit of ₦23.6 billion, up significantly from the ₦19.5 billion recorded in 2024. This growth underscores the Fund’s ability to generate robust returns from its infrastructure loan portfolio and effectively manage operating costs.

At its core, NIDF’s performance was fuelled by solid interest income from infrastructure loans, which climbed sharply year-on-year, reflecting increased lending activity and perhaps improving credit conditions in key sectors.  The fourth quarter alone contributed ₦6.7 billion to the year’s earnings, slightly higher than the same period in 2024, illustrating consistent quarterly growth.

Interest income from infrastructure loans: N21.5 billion, up 22.26% YoY
Net fair value gains on infrastructure loans (profit or loss): N1.0 billion, up 170.83% YoY
Total income: N25.7 billion, up 19.44% YoY

Strong Asset Growth and Diversified Loan Portfolio

NIDF’s balance sheet also strengthened in 2025. Total assets rose to approximately ₦137.7 billion, up from around ₦120.7 billion the previous year. Most of this asset base comprised financial assets measured at fair value, underscoring the quality of the Fund’s loan portfolio. Members’ funds grew nearly 15% year-on-year, reaching about ₦130.7 billion, while total units in issue expanded, indicating growing investor participation.

The Fund’s diversified investment approach spans nine key infrastructure sectors, with sizeable exposures in pipeline networks, marine infrastructure, off-grid solar sites, and telecommunications tower projects. Such diversification has helped insulate returns and spread risk across different parts of Nigeria’s infrastructure ecosystem.

Consistent Distributions and Benchmark Outperformance

For investors, NIDF’s performance translated into attractive distributions. In the fourth quarter of 2025, the Fund offered a distribution yield of nearly 20.99%, equivalent to ₦4.68 per unit, a compelling return compared with traditional fixed-income options. Over the full year, NIDF significantly outpaced its benchmark, the 10-year Federal Government of Nigeria bond, by over 400 basis points, showcasing its ability to generate superior risk-adjusted returns.

From an economic standpoint, the Fund’s performance signals renewed investor confidence in long-term Naira-denominated infrastructure financing, which is critical for closing Nigeria’s infrastructure gap and supporting broader economic growth by improving transport, energy, and communications networks, sectors that are essential for boosting productivity and private sector investment.
