Nigeria has secured one of the biggest national football kit sponsorships in the world after the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) agreed an $8.5 million annual deal with German sportswear giant Adidas.

The agreement, which takes effect in 2027 when Nigeria’s current Nike contract expires, will end the country’s 11-year partnership with the American sportswear company.

The deal was disclosed by former NFF president Ibrahim Musa Gusau in Abuja on August 27, 2026, shortly before he resigned from office.

According to Gusau, Adidas will pay the NFF $4.5 million in cash every year and provide another $4 million worth of kits and equipment for Nigeria’s national teams. The federation will also receive a 20 per cent royalty on qualifying merchandise sales.

The package puts the guaranteed annual value at $8.5 million before merchandise royalties.

The Adidas agreement represents a sharp increase on the terms of Nigeria’s previous Nike arrangement, which Gusau said provided $500,000 in annual cash and about $1 million worth of equipment.

The NFF began seeking improved terms from Nike in 2024. Gusau said Nike had a contractual right to match competing offers but was unable to match Adidas’ proposal.

The new agreement is expected to cover Nigeria’s senior and youth national teams, including the Super Eagles and Super Falcons.

The $8.5 million package places Nigeria 10th globally among national team kit deals, according to a ranking published by The PUNCH.

Nigeria’s deal now sits ahead of several established football nations and is also the highest publicly reported national team kit agreement in Africa.

The ranking highlights the commercial strength of Nigerian football despite recent setbacks on the pitch. The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the Super Falcons missed out on qualification for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

The deal also gives the NFF a potentially valuable merchandise revenue stream.

Gusau said Adidas currently operates about 13 stores in Nigeria and plans to increase that number to 32 within two years. The NFF’s 20 per cent royalty on qualifying merchandise sales could therefore provide additional income beyond the guaranteed $8.5 million package.

Gusau said the increased revenue could improve the federation’s ability to recruit high-profile coaches for the Super Eagles and Super Falcons, while also supporting other football programmes.

The agreement marks Adidas’ return as Nigeria’s national team kit supplier after the partnership ended in 2014.

Adidas had previously supplied Nigeria during the era that included the country’s 1994 World Cup debut and later returned as kit supplier from 2004 to 2014, a period that included the Super Eagles’ 2013 Africa Cup of Nations triumph.

The new Adidas deal therefore represents not only a commercial upgrade for the NFF but also a return of one of the most recognisable global sportswear brands to Nigerian football.
