The Lagos State Government is stepping up efforts to attract private investment into its electricity market as it seeks to deepen power generation, distribution and other energy infrastructure across the state.
The state government said it will use the second Lagos Energy Summit to review developments in the electricity market and create opportunities for private-sector participation.
The summit, scheduled for November 10 and 11 in Victoria Island, Lagos, will bring together policymakers, regulators, investors, development partners, industry leaders and innovators.
Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources, Biodun Ogunleye, said the event would assess progress since the enactment of the Lagos State Electricity Law and explore partnerships capable of improving the state’s electricity market.
The discussions will focus on the implementation of the electricity law and its implications for private investment across the power value chain.
The state is also expected to examine opportunities in renewable energy, electricity infrastructure and decentralised power generation.
According to Ogunleye, the summit is intended to move discussions beyond policy and encourage strategic partnerships and investment in the state’s electricity sector.
The government’s push comes as private power projects continue to move through licensing, construction and development stages in Lagos.
The state said the evolving regulatory framework is intended to provide a clearer environment for investors while supporting the development of a more reliable and sustainable electricity market.
