The Lagos State Government has commenced a 35-day rehabilitation of Ozumba Mbadiwe Road, introducing traffic diversions and alternative routes to reduce congestion along the busy Victoria Island corridor.

The project, which began on Monday, October 19, 2026, covers the stretch from Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre to Samuel Manuwa Street/BJ.

Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, announced the rehabilitation in a traffic advisory issued on Thursday, October 15, 2026, according to reports by The PUNCH and Channels Television published on Friday, October 16, 2026.

Under the traffic management plan, a contraflow arrangement has been introduced on the Lagos-bound side, between Samuel Manuwa Street and Adetokunbo Ademola Street/Civic Centre, while work is carried out on the opposite lane.

The government said officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) would coordinate vehicle movement, manage congestion and minimise inconvenience to motorists during the rehabilitation.

Motorists travelling from Bonny Camp and Falomo towards Civic Centre and Lekki have been advised to use Adeyemo Alakija Street by Muri Okunola Park, connect to Adeola Hopewell Street and Akinbo Savage Street, and proceed through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street to School Corner near Black Diamond before continuing towards Sandfield.

Those travelling from Falomo towards Akin Adesola Street should pass through IMB to access the Coastal Road entrance via Adetokunbo Ademola Street. They should continue to Eko Hotel Roundabout, then take Ajose Adeogun Street and Ligali Street towards Black Diamond School Corner.

Motorists leaving Bonny Camp are advised to use Ahmadu Bello Way to reach Eko Hotel Roundabout through the IMB/Coastal Road entrance. From there, they should follow the designated diversion through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and the Adetokunbo Ademola/Eko Hotel Roundabout axis before connecting to Ajose Adeogun and Ligali streets towards Black Diamond School Corner.

Vehicles travelling from Eko Hotel through Adetokunbo Ademola Street towards Civic Centre will be diverted through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street and School Corner near Black Diamond, towards Sandfield.

Motorists exiting through the 1004 gate will be directed to turn left or make a U-turn in front of the gate before proceeding through Bishop Aboyade Cole Street towards School Corner and Sandfield.

For motorists travelling from Eko Hotel towards Falomo and Ikoyi, the recommended route is through Sanusi Fafunwa Street, connecting to Akin Adesola Street towards the ramp bridge.

The state government has urged motorists to plan their journeys ahead, obey traffic officials and cooperate with the diversion arrangements throughout the rehabilitation period.

Road users are also advised to familiarise themselves with the alternative routes and allow additional travel time to reduce the risk of delays.
