Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, Nigerian technology entrepreneur and co founder of Andela and Flutterwave, has stepped down from the board of Learn Africa Plc after serving for six years.

Aboyeji’s departure marks the end of his tenure as a non executive director of the education company. His resignation was disclosed by Learn Africa in a notice to the Nigerian Exchange Limited, according to reports. The entrepreneur joined the board in 2020, bringing his experience in technology, entrepreneurship and digital innovation to the company. His time on the board coincided with a period when technology became increasingly important to the education sector, particularly as institutions and businesses explored new ways of delivering learning services.

Learn Africa is one of Nigeria’s longstanding education companies, with interests in educational publishing and learning materials. The company has continued to operate within the education sector as demand grows for accessible and relevant learning resources.

Aboyeji is widely recognised for his role in building some of Africa’s most notable technology companies. He co founded Andela, a company focused on training and connecting African software developers with global opportunities. He later co founded Flutterwave, a financial technology company that provides payment infrastructure for businesses across Africa. His entrepreneurial experience has also extended into investment and innovation. Aboyeji is a co founder and general partner at Future Africa, an investment platform that supports technology and other businesses across the continent. His career has therefore placed him at the intersection of technology, entrepreneurship, investment and business development.

His exit from Learn Africa comes after six years of contributing to the company’s board and strategy. While the company did not indicate that his departure was linked to any dispute, the resignation brings an end to his formal involvement in the company’s governance. The development also highlights the changing composition of corporate boards in Nigeria, where businesses increasingly seek directors with experience in technology, finance and innovation.

Aboyeji’s involvement with Learn Africa provided the company with access to his knowledge of the technology ecosystem and the changing needs of younger consumers. His experience in building digital businesses may also have been useful as the education industry adjusted to new expectations around digital learning and technology driven services.

Beyond his corporate responsibilities, Aboyeji has remained active in initiatives focused on entrepreneurship and economic development in Nigeria and Africa. He has also been involved in efforts to support young people and improve opportunities within the continent’s growing technology ecosystem. Aboyeji’s career has included leadership roles in several companies, making him one of Nigeria’s better known technology entrepreneurs. His work with Andela and Flutterwave helped establish his reputation within Africa’s startup community. He has since focused significantly on supporting other entrepreneurs through investment and mentorship.

The Learn Africa board role was therefore one part of a broader career that has combined entrepreneurship with corporate governance and investment. His resignation does not appear to signal an exit from the education or technology sectors. Instead, it comes as the entrepreneur continues to focus on his other business and investment interests. For Learn Africa, the departure creates an opportunity to refresh its board and bring in another director with skills suited to the company’s future plans. As the education sector continues to evolve, expertise in technology, digital products and innovation is expected to remain important.

Aboyeji’s six year tenure consequently comes to an end at a time when education and technology are becoming increasingly connected. His contribution to Learn Africa forms another chapter in a career that has largely focused on building businesses and supporting innovation across Africa.
