Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has inaugurated the new 14.3-kilometre Daura Western Bypass Road, marking a significant milestone in the state’s urban renewal and infrastructure drive. The Governor launched the project on Wednesday during a ceremony attended by the Emir of Daura and other traditional and political stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Governor Radda emphasised that the road was designed to promote vital socio-economic growth, alleviate chronic traffic congestion, and enhance security within the historically significant town. “This project demonstrates our commitment to equitable development across Katsina State,” the governor stated. “Daura deserves modern infrastructure that matches its historical importance.”

The Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Engineer Sani Ingawa, detailed the project’s scope, confirming that it includes an 11.3-kilometre stretch linking Dunu to Dimurkol Village, alongside a three-kilometre dual carriageway along Katsina Road, which was included despite being classified as a federal route.

In a show of gratitude, the Emir of Daura, HRH Umar Faruq Umar, announced that the newly constructed road would be named “Malam Dikko Umaru Radda Road” in the Governor’s honour, commending his dedication and commitment to equitable project distribution between the Katsina and Daura Emirates.

The completion of the Western Bypass is expected to deliver a significant economic lift to the agrarian region. By diverting heavy commercial traffic away from the busy town centre, the road is set to drastically reduce vehicle operating costs and travel time for goods. This improved efficiency is particularly crucial for the state’s key agricultural sector.

Transportation analysts note that for states in Nigeria’s North, a better road network translates directly into reduced input costs for farmers and faster market access for produce, helping to lower post-harvest losses and stabilise food price volatility. This new corridor is expected to unlock the economic potential of the communities along its route.

While celebrating the project, the Emir did raise a critical concern regarding the demolition of the Emirate’s Main Gate caused by the separate ongoing Kano to Kongolam Road construction. Governor Radda promptly addressed the issue, assuring that appropriate compensation would be paid for all affected plots and directing the construction company to coordinate with the other firm to ensure the immediate reconstruction of the Emirate Palace Gate. The Governor concluded by expressing appreciation for the community’s steadfast support of his administration.
