Ghanaian business leader Daniel McKorley has urged university graduates to shift their mindset from job-seeking to problem-solving, stressing that true opportunity comes from innovation and self-reliance. Speaking at Garden City University’s 17th congregation, McKorley, widely known as McDan, said education should equip young people to create value, not simply wait for employment.
McKorley praised the university’s 25-year track record of producing skilled health professionals, noting its role in national development. He shared insights from his own journey building the McDan Group, which now operates across logistics, aviation, shipping, mining, and industrial salt production.
His firm’s Electrochem Salt Mine in Ada Songor is one of Africa’s largest, producing up to 650,000 metric tons annually, with expansion plans aiming for two million tons by 2025. McKorley has also announced a $445 million investment drive to scale operations and develop export infrastructure.
Beyond business, he highlighted the work of the McDan Foundation, which has supported thousands of widows and funded interest-free loans for over 1,000 women-led businesses.
