Former Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, has died at the age of 80, family sources have confirmed.
Odinga passed away on Wednesday while undergoing medical treatment at a hospital in India.
According to Indian police reports cited by AFP, the veteran politician was walking with family members and his personal doctor when he suddenly collapsed.
He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
In recent weeks, there had been growing speculation about Odinga’s health, although his family and close political associates had dismissed reports suggesting he was critically ill.
Condolences have continued to pour in from across Africa and beyond, with Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed among the first to express sympathy to Odinga’s family and the people of Kenya.
Raila Odinga, a central figure in Kenya’s political history, served as Prime Minister from 2008 to 2013 and remained an influential voice in the country’s democratic and reform movements until his passing.
