Geoffrey Nnaji, Nigeria’s Science Minister, has resigned due to allegations of “certificate forgery.” Nnaji stepped down after claims surfaced that he falsified his academic credentials.
The accusations, first raised by a civil society group, pointed to inconsistencies in documents Nnaji submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for his 2023 senatorial campaign.
The controversy sparked widespread debate, leading Nnaji to resign to allow for an investigation. He has denied the allegations, describing them as “politically motivated.”
Nnaji, a key political figure in Enugu, said his decision aims to uphold transparency. The Presidency has not yet appointed a new Science Minister, and the investigation into Nnaji’s credentials continues.
This resignation highlights ongoing concerns about integrity in Nigerian politics, with the public awaiting further developments on the matter.
