Tanzanian billionaire Edha Nahdi’s Amsons Group is set to inject $201.7 million into East Africa Portland Cement, aiming to quadruple the company’s output to 4 million tonnes within three years.
The investment will support financing and equipment modernisation, including a new energy-efficient grinding and clinkerisation plant.
The move is expected to boost Kenya’s cement production, with the country’s national statistics agency reporting a rise in cement production from 8.1 million metric tonnes in 2024 to 9.5 million in 2025.
Amsons Group’s managing director, Edha Nahdi, stated that the investment aligns with Kenya’s industrial push and will help deliver large infrastructure and housing targets.
If successful, the investment would see East Africa Portland Cement overtake Bamburi Cement as the market leader by output. Bamburi currently holds 32.6% of the Kenyan market share, producing 1.8 million tonnes of cement annually.
