Nigerian billionaire Abdul Samad Rabiu has fulfilled his promise to reward the Super Eagles with $500,000, despite their loss to Morocco in the AFCON semi-finals.
Rabiu praised the team’s effort and composure, saying their performance was a source of pride for Nigerians at home and abroad. “You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage and determination on the pitch,” Rabiu wrote. “Though it wasn’t meant to be this time, you have made every Nigerian proud”.
The gesture has drawn widespread attention and admiration, with many praising Rabiu’s commitment to supporting Nigerian sports. Rabiu, founder of BUA Group, has become increasingly visible in his support for sports and social causes, often linking private contributions to moments of shared national interest.
Rabiu had initially pledged the reward after Nigeria’s quarterfinal victory over Algeria, with additional incentives tied to winning and goal achievements. His net worth is estimated at $9.8 billion by Forbes.
