Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) has announced a major leadership change, appointing veteran energy executive Adeleye ‘Leye’ Falade as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

The NLNG Board of Directors approved the appointment, with Falade set to take the helm in April 2026, succeeding the outgoing CEO, Dr. Philip Mshelbila, whose transformative four-year tenure concludes at the end of 2025.

Dr. Mshelbila is departing NLNG to assume the prestigious international role of Secretary-General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) in Doha, Qatar, starting in January 2026.

This transition comes at a pivotal time for NLNG, as it builds on recent strategic shifts aimed at ensuring long-term sustainability and expanding its gas supply base beyond traditional shareholder sources.

Falade is a seasoned professional with deep roots in both NLNG and the global energy sector. He is rejoining the company from Brunei LNG, where he has served as Managing Director since April 2024.

His extensive career, primarily with Shell, includes numerous international leadership positions across seven countries, giving him vast experience in upstream and midstream assets.

Falade is no stranger to NLNG, having previously served as its General Manager of Production and, earlier, as Operations Manager.

His leadership is expected to provide continuity while building on the foundation laid by Dr. Mshelbila, who successfully navigated NLNG through unprecedented challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, severe flooding, and global energy market turbulence.

During his tenure, Dr. Mshelbila championed a strategic pivot by securing long-term gas supply agreements with six third-party suppliers, a landmark move to diversify and strengthen the company’s feed-gas sources.

At a recent send-off ceremony, NLNG executives lauded Dr. Mshelbila’s leadership. Deputy Managing Director Olakunle Osobu highlighted his “calm resolve” and focus on sustainability, while General Manager Sophia Horsfall praised his clarity of vision and the values that guided his every step.

Responding to the tributes, Dr. Mshelbila expressed his gratitude and affirmed his confidence in NLNG’s enduring culture of innovation.

As Falade prepares to step into his new role, he brings an engineering degree and an MBA from Henley Business School, along with a reputation for expertise in operations, product optimization, and change management, positioning him to lead NLNG into its next chapter of growth.
