Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a move that fuels speculation about his imminent defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to his local ward chairman, Mutfwang cited the “realities of the moment” and his commitment to “purposeful leadership” as reasons for seeking an “alternative political platform”.

The governor’s resignation follows that of several of his commissioners and local government officials, who also recently left the PDP in what appears to be a coordinated move ahead of their principal.

While Mutfwang has not yet announced his new party, the National Chairman of the APC recently stated that the governor was set to join the ruling party.
