As the yuletide season unfolds and banking halls adjust their hours for public holidays, Ecobank Nigeria has pledged to keep its digital platforms fully operational so customers can access essential banking services without interruption.
This reassurance comes at a time when many people rely on digital channels to manage their finances, settle bills, send funds, and complete other transactions while travelling, shopping, or celebrating with family and friends.
In a statement released on Friday, the bank highlighted the strength and reliability of its digital systems, underscoring its commitment to customer convenience and robust security throughout the festive and year-end period.
Victor Yalokwu, Ecobank Nigeria’s Head of Products & Analytics for Consumer & Commercial Banking, outlined the range of services that remain available to clients around the clock, even when physical branches are closed or operate on adjusted schedules due to public holidays.
Ecobank’s digital ecosystem includes the Ecobank Mobile App, Ecobank Business App, USSD code *326#, Ecobank Online, OmniPlus, Omnilite, EcobankPay, RapidTransfer, Ecobank Cards, ATMs, point-of-sale (PoS) terminals, and a widespread network of over 35,000 Xpress Point agent banking locations nationwide. These platforms ensure customers can carry out routine and advanced banking tasks wherever they are.
Customers can perform local and international funds transfers, pay bills, top up airtime, make merchant and QR payments, check balances, view statements, and complete cardless cash withdrawals at ATMs, all without stepping into a bank branch.
The bank’s digital services have become a critical part of everyday banking for millions, particularly during peak travel and spending periods like the yuletide. Digital channels provide speed, ease of access, and often lower cost alternatives to traditional banking methods. With the holiday season bustling with financial activity, many customers choose digital solutions to avoid queues and delays.
“Ecobank encourages customers to leverage these digital solutions for safe, fast, and efficient banking, especially during the festive season when convenience and reliability are essential. While physical branch operations may be subject to adjusted working hours in line with public holidays, customers can be assured that Ecobank’s digital platforms are designed to deliver uninterrupted service and enhanced security at all times.”
Yalokwu emphasized that it is not just about keeping services running, but also about safeguarding customer accounts. He reminded customers to stay alert against scams and fraud attempts, which tend to increase during the holiday season when online shopping, travel bookings and financial transactions spike.
“Before you wrap up the year, tighten your security. December brings online sales, travel, and year-end distractions, this is exactly when scammers are most active. From fake festive deals to cloned merchant sites and suspicious messages, staying vigilant helps keep your money safe,” Yalokwu said, stressing the importance of caution when interacting with unknown links or messages.
He advised customers to shop only on trusted websites, never share their PINs or one-time passwords (OTPs), avoid using unsecured public Wi-Fi for banking, and regularly review account activity to spot and report unusual transactions promptly.
Ecobank Nigeria is part of the broader Ecobank Group, a pan-African financial institution with a presence in 33 countries and offices in global cities such as London, Paris, Beijing, and Dubai. Its extensive regional footprint underscores its role as a major player in advancing digital banking access across Africa.
Digital banking adoption is reshaping Nigeria’s financial economy by reducing transaction costs, increasing financial inclusion, and supporting small business growth. As users shift toward digital platforms for convenience and efficiency, banks like Ecobank help drive economic activity through faster payment flows, stimulating trade and consumption even during slower holiday periods.
