Abdul Samad Rabiu, the billionaire industrialist and Chairman of BUA Group, has distributed cash gifts totaling approximately $20.7 million to nearly 100 long-serving employees. The rewards were presented on Friday in Lagos during the “BUA Night-of-Excellence,” an event dedicated to celebrating staff loyalty and dedication.

The tiered distribution of the funds highlighted the scale of the gesture. According to details released at the ceremony, five top-tier employees were awarded N1 billion each. Another set of five staff members received N500 million each, while several others took home N100 million. Dozens of employees across various cadres received sums ranging between N5 million and N20 million, depending on their tenure and category of service.

Rabiu stated that the initiative was designed to recognize the human capital behind the conglomerate’s expansion across Africa. BUA Group, a key player in cement production, sugar refining, and infrastructure, has seen significant growth in recent years, a feat Rabiu attributed directly to the resilience of his workforce.

“Businesses thrive when employees feel valued and secure,” Rabiu told the gathering. He emphasized that the rewards were particularly timely given the current economic climate, characterized by rising living costs and inflationary pressure.

This latest move aligns with Rabiu’s history of prioritizing employee welfare. In February 2024, he approved a 50 percent salary increase for all staff to cushion the effects of economic hardship. Similarly, in 2021, he announced a N2 billion share bonus for BUA Cement employees to reward their efforts during the supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
