The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced a fresh extension of the deadline for companies to move from its Fast Track Scheme to the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme, giving operators more time to complete the process without business disruption.
In a statement on Thursday, the NCS said the original deadline of December 31, 2025 has been shifted to January 31, 2026, in a move designed to deepen trade facilitation, secure supply chains and improve compliance with international standards.
The extension reflects the Service’s commitment to supporting businesses through the transition and ensuring that companies have enough time to meet the requirements of the AEO Programme, which is recognised worldwide for strengthening customs compliance and trade efficiency.
NCS spokesman Abdullahi Maiwada said the extended timeline will allow existing Fast Track beneficiaries who have not yet completed their migration to begin and finish their AEO applications smoothly. Operators have been urged to use the official portal to submit their documentation and fulfil all compliance steps before the new cutoff.
Only firms that secure AEO certification will continue to enjoy the trade facilitation benefits previously available under the Fast Track Scheme, according to the statement. These advantages include faster cargo release, less paperwork, reduced inspections, and pre-arrival processing, which help make international trade more predictable and efficient.
The AEO Programme is part of Nigeria’s broader effort to align its customs procedures with global standards, including the World Customs Organisation’s SAFE Framework of Standards and relevant provisions of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023.
To support stakeholders during the transition, the NCS said it will hold a comprehensive stakeholders’ engagement forum aimed at providing practical guidance, demonstrating the application process, and addressing compliance-related concerns. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with AEO implementation teams and gather detailed information about requirements and benefits.
The Service also highlighted that assistance is available through a dedicated helpdesk for technical support or enquiries about the migration process. It encouraged all Fast Track beneficiaries to take full advantage of the extension period, complete their transition, and maintain eligibility for the enhanced facilitation privileges under the AEO Programme.
Overall, this extended deadline is intended to ensure a smooth, inclusive and orderly shift to the AEO system, helping businesses adjust and contributing to a more competitive trade environment in Nigeria.
