Energia Limited, a prominent Nigerian independent energy company, has introduced a new Graduate Trainee Programme aimed at empowering recent graduates to build meaningful careers in the energy sector.

The initiative is designed to give young Nigerians real-world experience in both technical operations and commercial business functions. Through the scheme, trainees will rotate between fieldwork and office assignments, giving them a full view of how Energia’s oil and gas operations and the wider energy value-chain function on a daily basis.

“The future of our industry lies in the hands of today’s young professionals,” said the company’s Chief Operating Officer, Oladimeji Bashorun. “This programme is our way of investing in Nigeria’s brightest minds, equipping them with practical skills, exposure, and the confidence to thrive in a fast-evolving energy landscape.” Meanwhile, the firm’s General Manager of HR and Corporate Services, Tope Daramola, added that the goal is not merely to provide work experience, but to build a sustainable talent pipeline and foster the competence and values that define Energia’s culture of excellence and innovation.

To be eligible, applicants must be Nigerian graduates with at least a Second-Class Upper (2:1) degree in fields such as engineering, geosciences, business or finance or a Second-Class Lower (2:2) with a Master’s degree at distinction level and must have completed the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in 2023 or later.

Energia emphasizes that this programme is part of its broader vision to become Africa’s leading provider of reliable and sustainable energy, not only by delivering energy, but by investing heavily in human capital development, community welfare, and stakeholder engagement.

For graduates, the opportunity offers more than just a first job; it represents a launchpad into Nigeria’s energy sector, complete with mentorship, hands-on training, and a chance to contribute meaningfully to the company’s operations and Nigeria’s energy future.

In economic terms, this kind of initiative can help reduce youth unemployment, channel fresh talent into a critical sector, and strengthen local capacity, a boost for both the company and the national economy.

By training and absorbing fresh graduates into the energy sector, the programme helps curb youth unemployment and builds skilled labour capacity domestically. This can reduce Nigeria’s reliance on foreign talent, stimulate job creation, and contribute to long-term energy-sector stability, offering positive spill-over effects for economic growth and human-capital development.
