CLMI’s Bold Vision: Tapping Into a $60 Trillion Global Logistics & Transport Market to Fuel Africa’s Economic Rise

The Courier and Logistics Management Institute (CLMI) is spearheading an ambitious effort to unlock a staggering $60 trillion global logistics, courier and transport market, calling on governments, industry leaders, and investors alike to seize this economic opportunity. CLMI’s upcoming International Conference & Investiture 2025, slated for Lagos, is being positioned not just as a gathering of logistics professionals, but a transformative platform for shaping Africa’s trade and transport future.

At a press briefing, CLMI’s Executive Chairman, Distinguished Professor Simon Emeje, urged the Nigerian government to form strategic partnerships with the Institute. He noted that Nigeria’s own share of this vast market could be as large as $16 trillion, with logistics assets alone valued at $14 trillion.  Emeje described the conference as “a unique platform where strategies are formed, partnerships are nurtured, and actionable insights drive real economic impact.”

During his remarks, Prof. Emeje emphasized that when fully optimized, the logistics sector can deliver more than just operational efficiency; it can power sustainable business growth, national wealth creation, and broad-based development. “It aims to strengthen the logistics sector’s role in driving sustainable business growth, wealth creation, and national development,” he explained.

This push comes against the backdrop of CLMI’s longstanding advocacy. The Institute has repeatedly pointed out that despite Nigeria’s courier and logistics sector being valued at over ₦15 trillion, much of its potential remains untapped. In fact, CLMI reckons that Nigeria currently uses only around 20 per cent of its logistics capacity. Prof. Emeje has also called for stronger regulation, capacity building, and innovation to fully unlock this value.

Beyond Nigeria, the conference seeks to foster a continental conversation on how Africa can scale its logistics infrastructure, leverage the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and integrate more deeply into the global transport economy.

Economically, the implications are profound. A more efficient and expansive logistics sector could significantly reduce inflationary pressures, enhance productivity, and stabilize key macroeconomic variables such as interest rates and energy costs, potentially serving as a driver for Nigeria’s broader goal of achieving a $1 trillion economy by 2026.

If successfully harnessed, CLMI’s initiative could transform logistics into a major economic engine for Nigeria and Africa. By tapping into global markets, increasing efficiency, and boosting capacity, the sector could drive job creation, lower transport costs, fuel trade, and significantly expand national GDP, laying a foundation for sustainable economic growth.
