Eko Electricity Distribution Company has officially confirmed Rekhiat Momoh as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, cementing her position after serving in an acting capacity since March 2024. The appointment comes as Nigeria’s power sector continues to grapple with distribution inefficiencies and rising operational costs.

Momoh, who hails from Edo State, brings nearly three decades of experience spanning the National Electric Power Authority, the Power Holding Company of Nigeria, and Eko Disco. Her expertise covers commercial operations, marketing, distribution management, and customer service, making her one of the most experienced executives in the sector.

Track record of operational improvement

Before her confirmation, Momoh held several key roles at Eko Disco, including General Manager for Commercial, Assistant General Manager for Marketing, and District Manager for Orile, Mushin, and Apapa business units. Under her supervision, the company achieved a notable reduction in Aggregate Technical, Commercial, and Collection losses, cutting them from 32.78% in 2017 to 26.82% in 2019.

Her leadership has also been recognised externally. In 2025, she was named among Nigeria’s Top 50 Best Performing CEOs at The Business Times CEO Forum and Awards.

Implications for consumers and the economy

Eko Disco’s improved operational efficiency could have a tangible impact on ordinary Nigerians. Reduced losses and better distribution management may help limit tariff increases and ensure more reliable power supply, easing the financial burden on households and small businesses that face high electricity costs.

Momoh’s appointment signals the company’s commitment to professional management and long-term stability, factors that investors and consumers alike will watch closely as Nigeria seeks to strengthen its power infrastructure.
