MultiChoice Nigeria has introduced a new subscription structure for DStv and GOtv customers, replacing its previous package lineup with four options on each platform as the company seeks to simplify its offerings and expand access to entertainment and sports.
The changes, introduced under the company’s Expect More campaign, took effect today, November 5, following an announcement by MultiChoice Nigeria Chief Executive Officer, Kemi Omotosho, at a media briefing in Lagos on October 27.
Under the new arrangement, DStv customers can choose from Starter, Select, Sports and Premium, while GOtv subscribers have Easy, Starter, Select and Sports packages.
The revised DStv subscription rates are ₦6,000 monthly for Starter, ₦11,000 for Select, ₦21,000 for Sports and ₦44,500 for Premium.
For GOtv customers, Easy costs ₦4,000 monthly, Starter ₦6,000, Select ₦11,000 and Sports ₦21,000.
The restructuring is designed to give subscribers more flexibility to select packages based on their entertainment preferences and budgets.
DStv Starter, formerly known as Access, now includes SuperSport KICKOFF, which provides access to the Premier League Match of the Week and selected UEFA Champions League fixtures. It also features Africa Magic+.
The Select package offers a broader combination of movies, local and international series, children’s programming and selected sports.
For football enthusiasts, the Sports package provides access to every Premier League and UEFA Champions League match, alongside WWE and UFC content. It also includes the general entertainment channels available on Select.
Premium remains the top-tier package, offering additional sporting competitions such as Formula 1, MotoGP, Grand Slam tennis and major golf tournaments, alongside international entertainment on M-Net.
MultiChoice is also refreshing its movie offerings through channels including M-Net Movies+, M-Net Stars and M-Net Legends. Africa Magic Family has also been rebranded as Africa Magic+.
According to a report by PREMIUM TIMES published on October 28, existing DStv subscribers with active subscriptions will be automatically migrated to corresponding new packages. Access subscribers will move to Starter, Family customers to Select, Compact subscribers to Sports and Compact Plus customers to Premium.
The company said the migration would take place without additional charges for the transition, while customers who had paid ahead would retain the value of their existing subscriptions for the remaining period.
However, the new structure makes the distinction between general entertainment and comprehensive sports coverage more pronounced.
Households seeking every Premier League and Champions League fixture will need the Sports package, which costs ₦21,000 monthly, while viewers interested in additional international sporting competitions and premium entertainment will have to retain Premium at ₦44,500.
The changes could therefore influence household entertainment budgets, particularly among subscribers who may want to switch packages depending on the channels they watch.
For budget-conscious viewers, the lower entry-level options offer access to selected entertainment and football content without requiring a premium subscription.
However, subscribers should compare the actual channel lineups before changing packages to avoid losing access to programmes they regularly watch.
MultiChoice’s latest restructuring represents a significant adjustment to its Nigerian television business as it attempts to attract new customers, retain existing subscribers and respond to changing entertainment preferences.
