The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) has pledged to improve electricity supply to businesses and industrial customers in Ogun State, announcing plans to procure an additional 125 megawatts (MW) of power and upgrade its distribution network.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of IBEDC, Deolu Ijose, made the commitment during stakeholder engagement sessions with key customers in Sagamu and Ota on Tuesday, October 20, 2026.

According to a report published by The PUNCH on October 20, 2026, Ijose acknowledged persistent complaints about inadequate electricity supply, frequent interruptions, metering challenges and delays in resolving faults.

He said the company had signed an agreement to procure additional electricity directly from a generation company, with an initial supply of about 125MW expected to support major business and industrial corridors within its franchise area.

The additional power is intended to complement electricity obtained through the national grid. However, Ijose acknowledged that IBEDC would also need to strengthen its distribution infrastructure to deliver the additional electricity effectively.

The company plans to prioritise network improvements, including infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving supply reliability and voltage stability. It is also working with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and other stakeholders on interventions to improve electricity delivery, including projects supported by the World Bank.

Ijose explained that electricity supply depended on the performance of the entire power value chain, from generation and transmission to distribution. Disruptions at any stage, he said, could affect the electricity ultimately delivered to customers.

On service delivery, the IBEDC chief executive pledged to improve complaint handling and fault resolution while working towards meeting the minimum daily supply requirements for eligible Band A customers.

He said the company was reviewing its performance to determine whether customers in the category were receiving the promised minimum of 20 hours of electricity daily and to identify the causes of any shortfalls.

Ijose also said feedback from customers would guide the company’s investment priorities, particularly in areas where unreliable electricity affects manufacturing, business operations and economic activity.

He acknowledged that IBEDC had experienced a prolonged period of limited investment while under the management of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON).

According to The PUNCH, the company’s new board took effect on February 11, 2026, following the entry of a new core investor, while the new management resumed in April.

Ijose expressed confidence that the new ownership structure would improve the company’s capacity to invest in infrastructure and address longstanding operational challenges.

He stressed that reliable electricity was essential for manufacturers whose operations depended on stable power to run machinery and protect equipment from disruptions.

An agro-allied industrialist, Goke Adeyemi, also urged the company to take urgent steps to ease erratic electricity supply, which he said was making life difficult for businesses and residents across Ogun State.

The 125MW procurement plan and proposed network upgrades could provide additional support for industrial activity in the state. However, the impact on customers will depend on implementation, the availability of electricity and the capacity of the distribution network to deliver it reliably.
