The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Abdulmajid Halifa Nazifi before the Kano State High Court over the alleged misappropriation of ₦34.875 million meant for the purchase of spaghetti from BUA.

Nazifi appeared before Justice Musa Karaye on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, on a one-count charge of criminal misappropriation involving funds belonging to Fahad Balarabe Adaji.

According to reports published by Premium Times on October 16, 2026, the charge alleged that the offence occurred in Kano between September and October 2024.

The prosecution alleged that the money was transferred, on Nazifi’s instruction, into a First Bank account belonging to Muazu Abdullahi for the purchase of IRS Spaghetti from BUA.

However, the EFCC accused Nazifi of knowingly converting the funds to his personal use instead of using them for the intended transaction.

The charge stated that the alleged offence contravened Section 308 of the Penal Code Law of Kano State and was punishable under Section 309 of the same law.

When the charge was read to him, Nazifi pleaded not guilty.

Following his plea, prosecution counsel Mustapha Maiwada asked the court to fix a date for trial and order the defendant’s remand in a correctional facility.

Justice Karaye granted the request and ordered that Nazifi be remanded in a correctional facility pending further proceedings.

The court adjourned the case until November 2, 2026, for the commencement of the hearing.

The arraignment marks the beginning of the court proceedings, and the allegations against Nazifi have yet to be proven. His not-guilty plea means the prosecution will have to establish its case before the court.

The EFCC has continued to prosecute alleged financial crimes involving the diversion or misappropriation of funds, with cases proceeding through the courts for determination.
