Indonesia has offered Nigerian investors tax benefits, special visa arrangements and preferential investment processing as it seeks to deepen economic ties with Nigeria beyond the trade in goods.

Iska Huberta Sinural, a senior trade analyst with Indonesia’s trade promotion authorities, disclosed the proposed incentives during a briefing for Nigerian journalists ahead of the 41st Trade Expo Indonesia, scheduled for October 14 to 18, 2026.

The offer is intended to encourage Nigerian businesses that already buy goods from Indonesia to establish operations in the country, potentially expanding commercial ties into manufacturing, investment and other productive activities.

However, the specific tax concessions, visa conditions, eligibility requirements and application procedures were not disclosed at the briefing.

The announcement comes as Indonesia prepares to host international buyers and businesses at Trade Expo Indonesia 2026, which will take place at the Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE) BSD City in Tangerang, Banten.

Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade confirmed the dates and venue in a statement published on September 30, 2026. The ministry said buyers from 113 countries had registered to attend as of September 29, while 1,533 Indonesian businesses had registered as exhibitors by September 25.

For Nigerian importers and manufacturers, the exhibition provides an opportunity to meet Indonesian suppliers, explore sourcing arrangements and assess potential investment partnerships.

Indonesia has existing investment incentive schemes, including tax holidays and tax allowances for qualifying businesses and sectors. According to Indonesia’s Investment Ministry, eligibility depends on factors such as the nature of the investment, its size and the applicable requirements.

It remains unclear whether the incentives announced for Nigerian investors represent a new country-specific package or access to existing investment schemes. The distinction will matter to businesses assessing the cost and conditions of establishing operations in Indonesia.

The Nigerian-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI) is also preparing to host the fifth Nigerian-Indonesian Investment and Trade Forum in Jakarta on October 20 and 21, 2026, following the trade expo.

The forum is expected to bring together government representatives, investors, manufacturers, exporters and other private-sector participants to discuss opportunities for trade and investment between the two countries.

Oil and gas, agriculture, manufacturing, renewable energy, mining and the digital economy have been identified as potential areas for expanded cooperation.

NICCI President Ishmael Balogun has also called for stronger investment links between the two countries, including opportunities for Indonesian businesses to invest in Nigeria.

For Nigerian companies considering expansion into Indonesia, the proposed incentives could provide an additional reason to explore the market. However, the commercial implications will depend on the precise terms, the sectors covered and the requirements investors must meet.

Clear guidance from the relevant Indonesian authorities on the tax and visa arrangements will be necessary for businesses to determine whether the offer provides a meaningful advantage over existing investment options.
