Three transmission towers along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line have collapsed in Nasarawa State, cutting off electricity supply to customers in parts of Keffi and Akwanga.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) said the incident occurred at about 4:06 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during rainy and windy conditions.

According to TCN, the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga single-circuit transmission line first tripped on overcurrent relay protection. Investigations after the trip revealed that Towers T78, T79 and T80 along the transmission corridor had collapsed.

TCN subsequently isolated the affected section of the line as a safety measure.

The collapse has made all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and Akwanga transmission substations unavailable.

This means electricity distribution companies cannot take supply from the affected feeders to customers in the areas served by the two substations.

TCN said its engineers are already at the site assessing the extent of the damage and determining the materials and other requirements needed to commence repair and restoration work.

The company did not give a specific timeline for restoring the affected line, but said it would provide further updates as the restoration work progresses.

TCN apologised to electricity customers affected by the outage and said efforts were underway to complete the necessary repairs and restore bulk power supply.

The incident comes days after TCN restored the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi single-circuit transmission line following the collapse of Tower 367 in Yauri, Kebbi State, on September 7, 2026.

That line was returned to service on October 1 after TCN engineers erected an Emergency Restoration System tower at the collapsed tower location.
