Students of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, are preparing for the 2026/2027 academic session, with attention turning to school fee payments and applications for the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.
The Nigeria Education Loan Fund, NELFUND, currently allows eligible students of public tertiary institutions to apply for interest-free loans covering institutional charges and, where requested, upkeep. NELFUND said successful applicants will have approved institutional charges paid to their institutions, while approved upkeep payments will be made into the bank account provided by the student.
Students can begin the application through the official NELFUND student loan portal. The registration process requires applicants to verify their Nigerian citizenship and educational information, including their student status through JAMB.
After creating an account, applicants can select “Request for Student Loan” and complete the required application details. NELFUND’s official privacy notice also lists institutional, matriculation or admission details, course information, bank or payment details and supporting documents among information collected during the application process.
NELFUND currently describes the programme as providing zero-interest loans for institutional charges and upkeep to eligible students. The fund’s terms state that repayment begins two years after completion of the National Youth Service Corps programme for students who participate in NYSC.
For ABU students, the university’s official website directs undergraduate and postgraduate students to its respective student portals for fee payments, online course registration, accommodation applications and other academic services.
Students are advised to rely on their individual ABU portal invoices rather than unofficial fee estimates when determining the amount payable for the 2026/2027 session.
