President Bola Tinubu will address Nigerians on Thursday, October 1, as the country marks its 66th Independence Day anniversary.
The president is scheduled to speak at 7am in a nationwide broadcast, according to a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, his special adviser on information and strategy.
The statement advised television and radio stations, as well as other electronic media outlets, to connect to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for the broadcast.
The address will be Tinubu’s fourth Independence Day speech since he became president on May 29, 2023.
Presidential Independence Day broadcasts have become a regular part of the country’s October 1 celebrations, marking Nigeria’s independence from British rule in 1960.
During Thursday’s broadcast, Tinubu is expected to speak on the state of the country and outline key policies and programmes of his administration.
The federal government has also announced that this year’s Independence Day celebration will be low key, similar to last year’s event.
According to the government, the 2026 celebration will focus more on reflection than elaborate festivities.
