President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Lagos after spending four weeks in Europe on what the Presidency described as a working vacation.
Tinubu arrived at the Presidential Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, at about 6:22 p.m. today, September 29, 2026, after departing Paris, France. The PUNCH and Channels Television reported his arrival on Tuesday.
He was received at the airport by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other dignitaries.
The President’s return was earlier confirmed by Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said Tinubu had ended his working vacation and departed Paris for Nigeria.
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30, 2026, beginning a three-week working vacation in Europe. He spent about a week in London before travelling to Paris, where he combined his leave with a number of official engagements. The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation had said on September 28 that he would return through Lagos and remain there for activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
During his stay in Paris, Tinubu held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron on September 18, according to the State House. He also met Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group on the same day to discuss expanded investment in Nigeria’s creative and digital economy.
On September 24, Tinubu witnessed the signing of memoranda of understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of the Gateway Deep Seaport and the Ogun State Blue Marine Special Economic Zone. The State House said the proposed investment was worth more than $7 billion.
According to the Presidency, Tinubu chose to return through Lagos to honour the memory of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola, who won the June 12, 1993 presidential election before its annulment by the military government.
While in Lagos, the President is expected to hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates ahead of the 2027 elections. He is also expected to attend the October 1 premiere of a movie honouring Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu.
Tinubu will also participate in activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary before returning to Abuja after his Lagos engagements.
His arrival brings to an end his four-week stay in Europe, which was initially scheduled to last three weeks before the Presidency announced an extension by a few days.
