Several parts of Abuja will experience an eight-hour power outage on Sunday, 6 September 2026, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out scheduled maintenance at the 132kV Apo Transmission Substation.
TCN announced the planned outage in a statement posted on its official X account on Saturday, 5 September 2026. The company said the maintenance will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
According to TCN, the exercise involves the stringing and latching of Optical Ground Wire (OPGW) on the two 132kV Katampe–Apo Transmission Lines, Lines 1 and 2, between towers T130 and T132.
The maintenance will affect electricity supply to Lugbe, Garki, Area 1, National Hospital, Guzape, Asokoro and surrounding communities, TCN said.
The transmission company explained that the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to receive electricity from the transmission network for onward distribution to customers in the affected areas while the maintenance is underway.
“Consequently, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to off-take electricity for supply to customers in Lugbe, Garki, Area 1, National Hospital, Guzape, Asokoro, and surrounding areas during the exercise,” TCN said.
TCN assured affected residents that electricity supply would be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed.
The company also apologised to electricity consumers in the affected communities for the inconvenience the planned interruption may cause.
Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to make necessary arrangements ahead of the scheduled eight-hour disruption.
