Transcorp Power Plc has proposed the appointment of Maryam Bala Shehu as an Independent Non-Executive Director, subject to approval by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The power company disclosed the proposal in a notice to the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) and the investing public dated September 2, 2026. The notice was signed by the Group Company Secretary, Atinuke Kolade.
According to the company, the proposed appointment is in accordance with the Companies and Allied Matters Act 2020 and Transcorp Power’s Articles of Association.
Shehu brings nearly three decades of experience across the energy sector, including more than two decades in senior leadership positions within TotalEnergies’ exploration and production operations in Nigeria and a secondment to Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG).
She currently works as an Energy Business Consultant and Alternative Dispute Resolution expert at Bamusky Global Consult Ltd.
Before moving into consulting, Shehu held senior positions at TotalEnergies covering finance, gas commercial operations and deepwater asset administration. Her most recent position was General Manager, Deepwater Assets Administration, a role she held from September 2020 to April 2022.
From 2014 to 2020, she served as Deputy General Manager and Lead Negotiator, Gas Commercial, where she was involved in negotiations for strategic gas agreements covering domestic gas supply and Nigeria’s LNG expansion programme. She also chaired the Gas Subcommittee of the Oil Producers Trade Section between 2018 and 2020.
Her board and governance experience includes service as a Board Member and Alternate Board Member of the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria, as well as finance and audit oversight roles involving NLNG and Brass LNG entities.
Shehu is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, the Energy Institute, UK, and the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators. She holds an MBA from IESE Business School, University of Navarra, in partnership with Lagos Business School, and a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The proposed appointment comes as Transcorp Power continues to navigate Nigeria’s challenging electricity market.
For the six months ended June 30, 2026, the company reported revenue of ₦181.97 billion and profit before tax of ₦54.99 billion, compared with ₦205.81 billion and ₦58.73 billion, respectively, in the corresponding period of 2025.
If approved by NERC, Shehu would join Transcorp Power’s board with experience spanning energy, finance, commercial negotiations and corporate governance.
