The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has added 10 new compactor trucks to its fleet as part of efforts to improve waste collection and keep Lagos cleaner. The new vehicles are expected to strengthen waste evacuation across the state and improve the efficiency of sanitation services.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, announced the deployment of the trucks during an official event in Lagos. He explained that the additional compactors would increase the authority’s operational capacity and help meet the growing waste management needs of the state’s expanding population.
According to LAWMA, the trucks were donated by the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority. Gbadegesin described the donation as an important example of how government agencies can work together to improve public services and address environmental challenges.
He expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Lotteries and Gaming Authority for supporting LAWMA’s efforts to provide better waste management services. According to him, the donation will help the agency respond more effectively to the increasing demand for efficient waste collection across Lagos.
Gbadegesin noted that Lagos continues to experience rapid population growth, making it necessary for the government to invest in modern equipment and infrastructure. He said acquiring more operational vehicles is an important step toward maintaining a cleaner, healthier, and more livable environment for residents.
The LAWMA boss stressed that environmental protection is a responsibility shared by everyone, including government agencies, businesses, and residents. He said partnerships between public institutions play a major role in solving waste management challenges and ensuring long-term environmental sustainability.
He explained that the newly acquired compactor trucks have already been deployed to key operational areas across Lagos where waste collection demand is highest. The move is expected to reduce delays in waste evacuation and improve the overall efficiency of LAWMA’s daily operations.
Gbadegesin also assured Lagos residents that the authority would continue to improve its waste management system through better planning, stronger enforcement of sanitation laws, and increased public awareness. He said LAWMA remains committed to making waste collection faster and more reliable across all parts of the state.
In addition to expanding its fleet, the agency plans to continue investing in modern technology and innovative solutions that will improve service delivery. LAWMA believes that upgrading its equipment and operations will help create a cleaner environment and support sustainable urban development.
The agency also called on private companies, government organisations, and other stakeholders to partner with LAWMA in promoting environmental sustainability. Gbadegesin said strategic investments in waste management infrastructure would help improve sanitation services and strengthen efforts to keep Lagos clean.
He added that collaboration between government institutions and the private sector is essential for building a modern waste management system capable of serving one of Africa’s fastest-growing cities.
LAWMA reaffirmed its commitment to providing quality waste management services by expanding its operational capacity, embracing innovation, and strengthening partnerships. The agency believes the addition of the 10 compactor trucks will improve waste collection, enhance environmental cleanliness, and contribute to a healthier living environment for millions of Lagos residents.
With the new vehicles now in operation, residents are expected to benefit from quicker waste evacuation, cleaner neighborhoods, and more efficient sanitation services as the authority continues its mission of building a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos.
