Nigeria’s digital economy is set to grow stronger following a new partnership between global technology company TeKnowledge and digital infrastructure provider Equinix. The two companies have agreed to work together to improve cloud computing, cybersecurity, and AI-ready digital infrastructure across Nigeria and other countries in West Africa.
The partnership is designed to help businesses and government organisations move their operations to secure cloud platforms while building reliable digital systems that can support artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, and other modern technologies.
By combining Equinix’s advanced global data centre network with TeKnowledge’s expertise in AI, cybersecurity, customer experience, and data solutions, the companies hope to make digital transformation easier for organisations of all sizes. They also plan to ensure that businesses meet important data protection and regulatory requirements while keeping sensitive information secure.
The companies explained that demand for cloud services, AI solutions, digital payments, and data-driven technologies is increasing rapidly across West Africa. As more organisations embrace digital transformation, there is a growing need for secure, scalable, and locally hosted digital infrastructure that can support future growth.
One of the major benefits of the partnership is improved cybersecurity. Organisations will have access to secure private connections that reduce security risks while providing faster and more reliable digital services. The companies also said that local data hosting will allow sensitive information to remain within national borders, helping businesses comply with regulations and increasing public trust in digital services.
The partnership also supports Nigeria’s Digital Transformation Agenda and the country’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy. By providing trusted digital infrastructure, the initiative aims to encourage innovation across key sectors of the economy and help organisations adopt new technologies with confidence.
Another important goal of the collaboration is job creation and skills development. TeKnowledge has a workforce of more than 2,000 engineers, including many Nigerian technology professionals. These experts will help design, deploy, and manage digital transformation projects while creating opportunities for local talent to gain valuable experience in emerging technologies.
TeKnowledge President and Chief Executive Officer, Aileen Allkins, said many organisations across Africa are looking for digital infrastructure that offers both high performance and strong security. She believes the partnership with Equinix will help businesses adopt cloud technology faster, improve digital resilience, and unlock new opportunities through AI and other advanced technologies.
Equinix West Africa Managing Director, Wole Abu, said the partnership combines Equinix’s global network of more than 280 data centres serving over 10,000 customers with TeKnowledge’s local knowledge and technical expertise. According to him, the collaboration will help organisations build secure digital ecosystems and take advantage of AI-driven innovation.
TeKnowledge’s Africa Territory Director, Olugbolahan Olusanya, added that successful digital transformation requires more than just technology. He explained that organisations also need the right strategy, security, and local support to achieve lasting success.
The partnership will initially focus on industries that depend heavily on secure digital infrastructure, including banking, fintech, telecommunications, healthcare, government, energy, utilities, and digital businesses. Overall, the initiative is expected to strengthen Nigeria’s digital ecosystem, improve cybersecurity, encourage innovation, and support the Federal Government’s vision of building a modern and connected digital economy.
