Cornerstone Insurance Plc has strengthened its corporate social responsibility (CSR) agenda with the donation of a solar-powered borehole to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Abuja, underscoring its commitment to improving public health, environmental sustainability, and community welfare.

The project, delivered through the Cornerstone Insurance Plc Foundation, is designed to provide the agency with reliable access to clean water while reducing dependence on conventional electricity and diesel-powered generators. The initiative aligns with the company’s broader sustainability strategy and supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6 on Clean Water and Sanitation and Goal 13 on Climate Action.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Cornerstone Insurance Plc, Stephen Alangbo, said the insurer’s community investment programme is anchored on three strategic pillars, education, health, and safety, which guide the foundation’s interventions across Nigeria.

Represented by the Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Cordelia Ekeocha, Alangbo said the company prioritises projects that create lasting social value for beneficiaries rather than short-term interventions.

“We believe that all our initiatives should have a lasting impact on the lives of the recipients. The Cornerstone Insurance Plc Foundation remains committed to promoting community support, education, and health and safety, and this borehole project reflects that commitment,” he said.

The NDLEA welcomed the donation, describing it as a practical intervention that will enhance access to clean and sustainable water within the agency’s facilities.

Receiving the project on behalf of the Chairman and Chief Executive of the NDLEA, Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Retd.), the Director of Technical Services, Deputy Commander-General Ambrose Umoru, commended Cornerstone Insurance Plc Foundation for supporting the agency’s welfare infrastructure.

Reliable water infrastructure remains essential for public institutions, particularly security and law enforcement agencies where uninterrupted access to potable water supports sanitation, operational efficiency, and the wellbeing of personnel. Solar-powered boreholes also offer long-term cost savings by reducing reliance on grid electricity and fossil-fuel-powered generators.

The donation reflects a growing trend among Nigerian corporates to integrate environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into their business strategies through investments in sustainable community infrastructure.

Founded in 1991, Cornerstone Insurance Plc is one of Nigeria’s publicly listed insurance companies, offering life and general insurance products to individuals and businesses. The company has continued to expand its sustainability and community development programmes as part of its long-term stakeholder engagement strategy, reinforcing the increasingly important role of corporate responsibility in Nigeria’s financial services sector.
