Bola Ahmed Tinubu has restated his resolve to build a stronger and more resilient Nigeria as he marked his 74th birthday, using the occasion to reflect on governance, reform, and national unity.
In a message delivered in Abuja on Sunday, the president expressed appreciation for the opportunity to lead the country, while acknowledging the goodwill he has received from citizens across the nation.
“Today, as I clock another year in the journey of life, I’m filled with joy and gratitude for the opportunity to serve this great nation.
“I want to take this moment to thank Nigerians for their messages, show of love and prayers on the occasion of my 74th birthday.”
The president described the outpouring of support as a source of encouragement, noting that public solidarity continues to strengthen his administration’s resolve amid ongoing reforms.
“I thank all citizens for their patriotism, solidarity and support for our administration.”
He also recognised individuals and organisations that publicly celebrated him through media placements, describing their gestures as meaningful demonstrations of goodwill.
“To those who have taken space in newspapers or paid for airtime on radio and television to wish me well, I thank you immensely.”
Tinubu extended personal appreciation to the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, acknowledging her support and message of goodwill.
“I must thank my wife, Oluremi Tinubu, for her kind and loving words.”
He also noted the support of Vice President Kashim Shettima, highlighting his role in the administration’s efforts.
The president explained that he marked the birthday quietly, citing prevailing national conditions and his longstanding personal preference.
“Consistent with my tradition, I resolved to observe this year’s birthday in a low-key manner,” he said.
Turning to governance, Tinubu reflected on the administration’s reform agenda, acknowledging the initial difficulties but pointing to emerging signs of improvement. He argued that recent policy measures, though demanding, are beginning to produce measurable outcomes.
“I am reminded of the challenges we have faced since initiating reforms, but our sacrifices are beginning to yield results.”
He also pointed to external pressures, especially geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, as factors influencing Nigeria’s economic outlook. Despite these constraints, he maintained that the broader trajectory remains positive.
“We can see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel, despite temporary setbacks caused by the ongoing Middle East crisis.”
Tinubu emphasised that progress recorded so far is the result of collective effort, rather than individual leadership, crediting Nigerians for their resilience and cooperation.
“The credit for the positive outcomes does not belong to me alone. We achieved these gains together.”
Looking ahead, he expressed confidence that the administration will deliver lasting improvements as it approaches its third year in office, framing current efforts as part of a longer-term transformation strategy.
“As we march towards the third anniversary of our administration, I am convinced that we shall succeed in building a brighter future.”
The president reaffirmed his commitment to addressing existing challenges, stressing that sustained public support will remain critical to achieving national goals.
