Naguib Sawiris, the 71-year-old chairman of Orascom Investment Holding and one of Africa’s wealthiest individuals, has spoken out against Iran’s recent missile and drone attacks on the United Arab Emirates.

Sawiris described the attacks as a “war against a way of life built on freedom, progress, and success” in a post on X, emphasizing that Iran’s actions go beyond military strikes and target the UAE’s values.

The attacks, which began on February 28, have resulted in three deaths and dozens of injuries, with debris from intercepted projectiles causing damage in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Iran launched 186 ballistic missiles and 812 drones at the UAE, with most being intercepted.

Sawiris’ comments come as the international community, including the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, and the United States, condemns Iran’s actions as unjustified and violating sovereignty.

Iran’s foreign minister claims the attacks were an act of self-defense in response to U.S. aggression.

As a prominent business figure and vocal critic, Sawiris’ statement reflects the concerns of many in the region.

His comments highlight the ongoing tensions between Iran and its Gulf neighbors.
