The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that it has successfully brought the 330 kV Shiroro–Mando Transmission Line 2 back into service after completing necessary repair works. The line was energised at about 8:32 p.m. on 19 February 2026 following extensive technical interventions by TCN engineers designed to secure the line’s integrity and operational dependability. The restoration was executed in strict compliance with established safety and quality protocols, the company said in a statement.

With both Line 1 and Line 2 now fully operational, the entire Shiroro–Mando 330 kV transmission corridor is functional again. TCN emphasised that this development significantly strengthens bulk electricity transmission to Kaduna Electric’s franchise area, improves network flexibility, and enhances the overall reliability of the national power grid.

TCN’s public affairs office highlighted that the dual-line restoration marks a notable milestone in ongoing efforts to reinforce the transmission backbone and ensure more dependable power delivery. Restoring both circuits reduces system vulnerabilities and gives operators greater operational flexibility to manage loads and respond to fluctuations in demand.

Although not explicitly detailed in the source article, the broader context shows that the Shiroro–Mando transmission corridor had experienced setbacks prior to this restoration effort. Earlier in the month, TCN reported completing repairs on Line 1, which improved the bulk supply to Kaduna Electric and alleviated some of the constraints customers had been experiencing.

In its public statement, TCN expressed appreciation for the cooperation and understanding of customers and stakeholders during the outage period. The company reaffirmed its commitment to building a resilient and efficient national grid capable of meeting Nigeria’s growing energy needs.

The restoration of this segment of the transmission network is part of TCN’s wider strategy to enhance infrastructure performance, maintain high safety standards, and reduce the frequency and duration of power disruptions. By restoring both circuits of the Shiroro–Mando link, the transmission operator has reinforced the stability of electricity flow into key distribution territories, particularly in the Kaduna region.

Retaining a firm analytical perspective, this development reflects a measured but essential step toward addressing longstanding grid challenges. It underscores the importance of proactive maintenance and system rehabilitation in sustaining bulk transmission capacity. Done correctly, such interventions help mitigate outages, reduce technical losses, and support overall grid robustness, which in turn fosters a more reliable power supply environment for industrial, commercial, and residential users across the network.

In summary, TCN’s successful return of the Shiroro–Mando Transmission Line 2 to service, alongside the already operational Line 1, restores full functionality to a critical transmission corridor. The company has framed this achievement as a reinforcement of system reliability and flexibility, aiming for enhanced bulk power transfer to distribution areas and improved overall grid performance.
