Capital Express Life Assurance is changing how Nigerians see insurance. Under CEO Mr. Mathew Ogelenya Ogwezhi, the company is using smart technology and a focus on trust to make protection easy and reliable for everyone. With big changes hitting the insurance world, Capital Express is leading the way to secure a brighter future.

On August 5, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Agenda (NIIRA 2025). This new law sets tough rules: life insurers need N10 billion in capital, better risk management, and clear operations, all within a year. For Ogwezhi, this is a chance to shine. With only 2% of Nigeria’s 200 million people using insurance, he wants to make it simple and erase doubts.

Ogwezhi’s journey is inspiring. Starting as a personal assistant, he rose to lead branches, regions, and sales strategies. He brought insurance to places like Jos, Kano, Warri, Onitsha, and Aba, where big companies rarely go. He also helped start operations in Ghana, Liberia, Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Kenya. His boldest move? A life insurance plan for university students, making coverage part of young lives.

Now, Ogwezhi is driving a digital revolution at Capital Express. Old, slow systems are out. New tools make buying policies and getting claims fast and easy. The standout is CLARA, an AI assistant that chats in English and local languages to guide customers.

“CLARA is built to demystify insurance,” Ogwezhi says. “Whether you’re a young professional, a parent, or a business owner, CLARA can guide you through products and even recommend solutions that fit your lifestyle and financial goals.”

But tech isn’t everything. “Technology is only as powerful as the trust behind it,” he adds. “Our responsibility is to assure Nigerians that insurance is not a gamble, but a guarantee of security.”

The new reforms aim to boost insurance use, protect customers, and embrace digital tools. Capital Express is ready, partnering with fintechs to offer plans for everyone—from young hustlers to retirees. Policies are now app-friendly and easy to understand. With Ogwezhi leading, Capital Express isn’t just selling insurance; it’s building a future where Nigerians feel secure with every step.
