Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has signed the ₦4.4 trillion 2026 budget into law, officially setting the stage for its implementation throughout the year.

The appropriation bill, previously approved by the 40-member Lagos State House of Assembly, is titled the “Budget of Shared Prosperity.” It reflects the government’s aim to improve infrastructure, strengthen the economy and support effective governance in Africa’s largest commercial hub.

At the signing ceremony on Monday, Sanwo-Olu said the budget is designed to benefit all residents of Lagos. He emphasised that the state government is committed to reducing poverty and building a city that “works for all.”

The budget was first presented to lawmakers in November 2025 with a focus on promoting social and economic well-being across the state. It aligns with the administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S+ Agenda, which guides policy and planning in areas such as human capital development, modern infrastructure, economic growth and improved governance.

The House of Assembly’s approval of the 2026 budget marked the final legislative step before it could be enacted. With the governor’s signature, the proposal now becomes law and will guide Lagos State’s spending and development priorities for the coming year.

Officials and lawmakers have stressed the importance of early implementation to ensure timely delivery of programmes and projects that affect residents across the state.
