Egyptian billionaire Hani Berzi’s Edita Food Industries has taken a major step to expand its presence across Africa by acquiring the rights to the popular snack brands HoHos, Twinkies, and Tiger Tail. The deal, struck with Hostess Brands—a unit of the J.M. Smucker Company—grants Edita ownership of these trademarks and associated brand rights throughout the continent beyond the Middle East and North Africa.
The financial details of the transaction were not disclosed, but the move significantly broadens Edita’s market reach. The company already holds the brands in countries including Egypt, Libya, Jordan, and the Palestinian territories. The latest acquisition allows Edita to market and potentially produce these snacks directly in additional African countries, strengthening its competitive position and brand portfolio.
Edita is one of Egypt’s leading producers of packaged baked goods and snacks, with a diverse portfolio that includes cakes, croissants, rusks, wafers, and confectionery. Its homegrown brands, such as Molto, TODO, and Bake Rolz, are widely recognized locally, and exports have steadily grown as the company pursues new markets.
Industry observers say the deal aligns with Edita’s strategy of geographic expansion and increased market penetration, particularly in Africa’s fast-growing urban and middle-class populations. By pairing globally recognized snack brands with its established manufacturing and distribution networks, Edita aims to capture more shelf space, deepen retailer partnerships, and build consumer loyalty across the continent.
Listed on both the Egyptian Exchange and London markets, Edita continues to explore opportunities that complement its existing portfolio, reinforcing its commitment to expanding revenue streams and strengthening its footprint across Africa.
