Geregu Power Plc has announced the appointment of Abdulaziz Yari, a former governor and senator, as its new chairman, following the resignation of Femi Otedola as chairman and the sale of his majority stake in the company.
The change in leadership comes after Otedola sold his 95% stake in Amperion Power Distribution Company Limited, which holds a 77% controlling stake in Geregu Power, to MA’AM Energy Limited in a deal valued at over ₦1 trillion.
Yari’s appointment reflects his distinguished career in education, politics, and public administration.
As the new chairman, Yari will lead a board that includes several new appointments, such as Abdulkadeer Njiddah, a non-executive director with experience in academia, public sector governance, and the power sector; Usman Mohammed, an independent non-executive director and chartered accountant with over 30 years of experience; and Mahmud Magaji, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria. The company’s CEO and deputy CEO have resigned but will assist in the transition.
