Nollywood faith-based film Agbara Nla: The Return has grossed ₦354.5 million at the Nigerian box office, becoming the third highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2026, according to its distributor, Nile Entertainment.
The film, which opened in Nigerian cinemas on October 1, 2026, has also become the highest-grossing Nollywood title released in October, following strong audience support for the remake of the 1993 Mount Zion Christian classic.
PUNCH reported on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, that Nile Entertainment announced the milestone alongside the weekend performance of three films distributed by the company.
Agbara Nla led the weekend box office with ₦47.50 million, followed by Street Fighter, which earned ₦36.43 million, and The Other Mummy, which generated ₦8.67 million.
The three films collectively earned ₦92.61 million, accounting for 58.9% of total weekend box office revenue in Nigeria. Nile Entertainment said its entire distribution slate accounted for 68% of the weekend’s earnings.
The performance highlights the growing commercial appeal of Nigerian films targeting specific audience groups, including faith-based cinema.
Agbara Nla: The Return draws on the popularity of the original film, using nostalgia to connect with audiences familiar with the Mount Zion production while attracting younger cinema-goers.
The film also recorded an opening weekend gross of $120,660 in selected cinemas across the United Kingdom and Canada, according to reports on its international box-office performance.
Directed by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua “JayMikee” Mike-Bamiloye, the film features Mike Bamiloye reprising his role as Isawuru, a character from the original production.
The film was produced by Chris Odeh and co-produced by Mount Zion Film Productions, Sozo Films, and Circuit Streams, with Nile Entertainment handling its distribution.
Nile Entertainment’s latest performance also places its other releases among the weekend’s strongest cinema performers, with Street Fighter and The Other Mummy occupying the second and third positions, respectively.
The distributor attributed the performance of its films to audience-focused marketing strategies tailored to different genres and fan communities.
The ₦354.5 million milestone strengthens Agbara Nla: The Return’s position among Nigeria’s biggest film releases of 2026, more than three decades after the original Christian production first reached audiences.
