Nollywood faith-based film Agbara Nla: The Return has grossed more than ₦307.2 million at the Nigerian box office, becoming the fourth-highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2026, according to its distributor, Nile Group.

The milestone, announced on Friday, October 16, 2026, marks a significant commercial success for the remake of the 1993 Christian film created by filmmaker Mike Bamiloye.

In a statement shared on Instagram, Nile Group said the film had become the highest-grossing Nollywood title ever released in October, while retaining its position among the year’s biggest theatrical performers.

The PUNCH reported the latest box-office figure on October 16, citing the distributor’s announcement.

The film’s latest performance represents a substantial increase from its opening figures. According to The PUNCH’s report of October 5, Agbara Nla: The Return grossed more than ₦170.6 million in its first four days in cinemas.

The opening total included approximately ₦71.4 million from preview screenings and ₦99.2 million from its first full weekend, according to Premium Times in a report published on October 14.

The preview performance attracted 12,134 admissions, while the film recorded another 16,223 admissions between October 2 and October 4.

Its opening run established it as the biggest non-December opening for a Nollywood film, according to Premium Times. The performance also made it the strongest opening for a faith-based Nollywood production.

The achievement is notable in an industry where major releases often target December, when public holidays and festive-season spending typically increase cinema traffic.

At its current reported gross, Agbara Nla: The Return trails three other Nollywood films released in 2026.

Call of My Life leads with approximately ₦719.8 million, followed by Love and New Notes with ₦400.5 million and The Return of Arinzo with ₦351.5 million.

The figures were published in the first-half box-office rankings compiled by ShockNG using Comscore Movies data. Although those rankings cover the first half of the year, the three films’ reported totals remain above the ₦307.2 million announced for Agbara Nla: The Return as of October 16.

The new film was directed by Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua “Jay Mikee” Mike-Bamiloye, the sons of the original film’s creator. Mike Bamiloye also reprises his role as Isawuru

Released in cinemas on October 1, 2026, the remake brings the classic Christian story to a new generation of cinema audiences more than three decades after its original production.

Its box-office performance demonstrates the commercial potential of faith-based productions beyond the traditional festive release window, while its continuing run could push its total earnings higher.
