The search for Nigeria’s inspiring young heroes has reached an important stage as the 2026 Indomie Heroes Awards moves closer to announcing this year’s winners.

The development follows the completion of the judging process for the 18 finalists selected from almost 500 entries received from different parts of the country. The awards are organised by Dufil Prima Foods, makers of Indomie Instant Noodles, to recognise young Nigerians whose actions demonstrate courage, compassion, resilience and positive impact.

The 2026 edition began with a nationwide call for nominations, allowing Nigerians to submit stories of young people who had performed exceptional acts in their communities. Entries were submitted through the official Indomie website, while independent research agencies were also engaged to identify and verify inspiring stories from across the country.

The research teams were responsible for checking the authenticity of the submissions and gathering supporting evidence. This included photographs, videos, testimonies from witnesses and other relevant documents where necessary. After reviewing almost 500 entries and the available evidence, the organisers selected 18 outstanding stories across three categories: Physical Bravery, Social Bravery and Intellectual Bravery. The finalists were then presented to a five member judging panel comprising professionals from different fields.

The panel included Nyma Zibiri, a lawyer, television host and public affairs commentator; Kehinde Adegboyega, Executive Director of the Human Rights Journalists Network Nigeria; Biodun Kolawole, an educator and financial literacy advocate; Oluwatosin Babasanya Craig, a corporate coach and leadership consultant; and Victory Ashaka, a youth advocate and spoken word artist. The judges said selecting the finalists was not an easy task because of the quality and strength of the stories submitted.

Kehinde Adegboyega said, “We had strong ties. We had a lot of bravery. We had a lot of amazing submissions,” while explaining that the Social Bravery category was particularly difficult to assess.

For Zibiri, the stories submitted this year demonstrated a strong sense of empathy and concern for others. She said she found “more of it” among the entries and described a true hero as someone “empathetic enough to put the love of self aside and help someone else, no matter what.” Kolawole said evidence and the actual impact of each action were important factors considered during the judging process.

Babasanya Craig also highlighted qualities such as resilience, courage, quick thinking, caution and the ability to consider the needs of others when assessing the finalists. Ashaka described making it into the final 18 from almost 500 entries as an achievement in itself.

“Your story definitely matters,” he said, encouraging all the finalists to recognise the value of their experiences regardless of the eventual outcome of the competition.

Beyond the awards, the initiative is designed to bring attention to young Nigerians whose acts of courage and kindness may otherwise remain unnoticed. Adegboyega said the programme provides a platform that reaches “the vulnerable, the less privileged” and gives their stories the visibility they deserve. With the judging process completed, attention has now shifted to the announcement of the 2026 winners.

The Indomie Heroes Awards is now in its 18th year and has continued to celebrate young Nigerians who demonstrate courage, compassion, creativity and determination. The initiative also reinforces the idea that heroism is not necessarily connected to age or status. Instead, it can be found in the willingness to help others, overcome difficult situations and create a positive difference in society.
